The table and chairs looked horrible and blended right into the floor. (I can't use rugs--ask my dogs why.)
So what do you do when you want to paint your first piece of furniture? You go to blog land of course! There are so many creative bloggers providing inspiration for painting newbies like me. Cindy at My Romantic Home and Miss Mustard Seed have great painting tutorials.
Look at my table and chairs now.
I haven't distressed the chairs yet. I am liking them as they are for now. I bought the lace tablecloth at a yardsale for $1.00.
I recovered the chair cushions in a linen fabric that I bought at Habitat Re-store for $2.00. I found the pillow (that is sideways) at the thrift store for $5.00. It was new and had Bed Bath and Beyond tags.
I love the way the dining area came out. It is light and fresh. This space is in one large room that includes the living area, the dining area and my office. I have re-done each of the areas and I'll post about the living and office areas soon. What do you think?
I'm linking my dining area re-do with these fun parties.

wow, that looks great! nice job. Came over from between naps on the porch.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. That lace tablecloth is lovely, but would be shredded at our house -- we have cats, not dogs, and they don't understand the concept of "Keep off the table!!"
ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal on the Bed, Bath, and Beyond pillow. It's hard to find them for under $30 at their store. Your table and chairs look so much more modern and airy than before, but I really like those matching pictures you painted white the best!
ReplyDeleteWow great prices, and great job!
ReplyDeleteOh it turned out gorgeous. I love the chairs and the fabric you recovered them in. The table looks fantastic too. I can bet that caning was a little hard to paint, but you did a gorgeous job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Thanks for stopping by - you have a new follower :)

I love the idea of lightening up rooms and making them so fresh and airy! Great job on the table and chairs and love all your new finds.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME transformation- oh my goodness what a nice fresh look it has created! WELL DONE!
ReplyDeleteI just love it now! Congrats!
really nice job on painting your furniture. Looks very fresh. I just love my old walnut dining chairs, but feel the same as you, that they're a little uninteresting. I suppose that after living with them for 20 years (I purchased them used at a consignment store, so no telling how old they really are) it's ok to change things up. Still considering my color options though, very undecided... Thanks for the inspiration. Also, I was browsing through your garden photos - so so so nice! ~diane
ReplyDeletewhat a transformation. I have some similar chairs I painted white too

ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely job you've done on your dining set! I just love the use of white everywhere! Will check back, as I'd love to see how the chairs look when they're distressed.
Your table and chairs look so amazing painted white! Perfect cottage dining room! Love the way the details on both the chairs and table just stand out so much more now.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the Habitat stores? I got my brand new bedroom flooring from them.
